As we all know, quotes help jumpstart project planning by defining deliverables, timelines, and pricing upfront. This creates transparency that minimizes surprises, reduces back-and-forth, and keeps both your team and your client on the same page.
What you may not know, is we’ve made Quotes in Teamwork.com even more powerful. With deeper margin visibility, more flexible line item control, and seamless project conversion, you can confidently move from approved quote to active delivery in seconds—without losing detail or momentum.
Designed to help you price smarter, plan better, and deliver faster, here’s what’s new in Quotes.
1. Understand Quote margins and profitability
Profit shouldn’t be a surprise at the end of a project. With numerous newly added columns, now Quotes give you full visibility into profit margins—both at the line item level and across the entire quote in the header—live as you build it.
Containing all the raw ingredients needed to calculate margins accurately, columns are calculated logically from left to right so you can follow along and understand exactly how each metric is derived. Finally you can ensure discounts, taxes, and cost rates won’t erode your profitability.
)
The result? No more exporting to spreadsheets to double-check margins. No more just hoping that the work will be profitable. Now it’s easier to sense-check the financial health of your quote and pitch future confidently, knowing exactly what you’ll make before the work starts.
2. Increased line item control
We’ve introduced greater flexibility and options in our line items so you can shape quotes around real-world deliverables and become much more organized. Check out these 4 line item enhancements:
Line items can now be categorized as Tasks, Allocations, or Expenses - This helps bring more specificity to the quote and determines exactly what each line item becomes when the quote is converted into a project.
Discounts can now be applied to individual line items (not a blanket discount across the whole quote) - This helps protect margins on high-value work and offers targeted concessions where they actually belong.
Line items can now be assigned to Placeholders (not only named resources) - This helps plan capacity before final assignments and scenario plan resourcing options in the early stage.
Group related line items together in sections to better organize your quote - This helps structure work into clear phases, packages, or streams making quotes easier to build, review, and present.
3. Swiftly translate to real work
A quote shouldn’t live in isolation, nor should its importance disappear once accepted. Now, you can convert an accepted quote into a project in just a few clicks, with all the important details mapped over automatically. No double entry. No manual project setup. No lost context.
When you convert a Quote:
You choose whether the project is Tentative or Confirmed
The project inherits: Client, People, Dates, and Description
Task line items become tasks in the new project
Allocation line items are added to the Schedule tab as allocated hours
[Coming soon!] Expense line items are added to the Finance tab
Budget type auto-selects based on quote pricing (Fixed Price or Time & Materials)
The project’s billable target equals the Quote total
A “Linked project” is visible in the Quote for full traceability
)
You can adjust all these details as needed in this conversion stage, but the original quote remains untouched, preserving your initial plan.
The result? A seamless flow from proposed work to active delivery. Start scheduling, assigning, and executing immediately—with both speed and control.
4. Quote creation and final details
Finally, here are a couple upgrades to how you create, review, and share quotes so the final output is just as polished as the planning behind it.
Support for multiple taxes - Quotes now support multiple taxes, including compound tax scenarios for regions that require them. More flexibility, more global readiness.
Create a project from a template - Create a quote from a project template, with metadata carried over automatically, to help you quickly prepare a pitch.
Try out the Client preview - See exactly what your customer will receive for peace of mind. Sensitive information (costs, profit etc) are all stripped out.
Improved PDF exports - More data carryover, cleaner breakdowns, and improved layout all for a more professional, polished finish.
Quote with confidence and deliver with clarity
These upgrades turn Quotes into a powerful bridge between planning, profitability, and delivery. They help you:
Understand your margins before you commit
Structure work exactly how you need it
Convert proposals into projects without friction
The sales-to-delivery handoff is finally speedy and streamlined, and you can ensure healthier profits from day one. Use quotes in Teamwork.com to guarantee that your proposal will be as strong as the work you deliver.
