What are Teamwork.com AI credits and how do they work?

Key takeaways

  • Your plan price isn't changing. From 10 November 2026, every paid plan includes TeamworkAI, with a monthly AI credit allowance: 1,000 on Basic, 2,500 on Accelerate, and 7,500 on Optimize and Enterprise.

  • The AI inside your everyday features is free. AI that helps within tasks, projects and resourcing, like AI Task Summary, AI Task Wizard and AI Profitability Forecasting, never uses credits and keeps working whatever your balance.

  • Credits cover the jobs you hand to AI. Ask AI, agents, Join my meeting, and Jack, our custom workflow builder, draw on your allowance. One credit is $0.01.

  • You stay in control. Credits are prepaid and shared across your account, and nothing is billed in arrears.

Teamwork.com is introducing AI credits. If your first question is “what’s this going to cost me?”, the short answer is that your credits come included with your plan, at no extra cost. Your plan price stays the same, and most of the AI you use day to day doesn’t use credits at all.

What changes is how the bigger jobs you hand to AI are covered, like asking Ask AI for a report or having an agent prepare a client update. From 10 November 2026, only those jobs draw from a monthly credit allowance that's already included in your plan. Nothing you use before 10 November is charged, and there's nothing to set up.

What is an AI credit?

An AI credit is how Teamwork.com measures AI work. Each credit is worth $0.01 (USD)*. A small job uses a few credits, and a bigger job uses more.

We chose credits because they're easier to budget for. Charging per token ties your bill to AI model costs you can't see or predict. Credits give you one unit at one fixed price, and they're prepaid. You decide your AI spend up front, instead of finding out what it was on an invoice.

* You'll be charged in your subscription's currency.

What's free and what uses credits

TeamworkAI comes in two layers. A simple way to tell them apart: if AI is helping you inside a feature, it's free. If you've asked AI to take on a piece of work, it uses credits.

Built into the platform, and free

This AI works inside the features you already use. It never uses credits:

Feature

What it does
AI Comments Assistant
Drafts and polishes comments
AI Comments Summary
Summarizes long comment threads
AI Task Summary
Gives you the gist of any task
AI Task Filter
Finds tasks from a plain-language request
AI Task Wizard
Turns notes, briefs or files into tasks
AI Project Wizard
Builds a project structure from a description or file
AI Project Update
Pulls together a project status update
AI Expenses
Fills in expense forms from a receipt
AI Formula Assistant
Writes formulas for custom fields and reports
AI Workload Summary
Summarizes team capacity and utilization
AI Smart Assign
Automatically suggests who's best to assign work to
AI Profitability Forecasting
Shows where project margins are heading
MCP (Model Context Protocol) connections
Connects your own AI assistant to Teamwork.com

Which of these you have depends on your plan. They keep working even if your credit balance hits zero. A fair-use policy applies, but everyday use won't come close to it.

Covered by your plan's credit allowance

These are the features where you hand AI a job to do:

  • Ask AI answers questions and creates or updates work from across your workspace.

  • Agents catch you up on projects, check project health and draft client updates, so risks surface early. Someone signs off before anything changes. Scheduled runs use credits each time.

  • Join my meeting joins your meetings, transcribes them and writes a summary.

  • Jack runs AI-powered steps inside your workflows. Standard steps don't use credits.

  • AI Allocation Assistant turns resource allocations into tasks in the scheduler.

  • AI Timelogging (Log my day in the time modal) logs time against tasks through chat.

Spend credits where they pay back. An agent drafts the client report, a senior person reviews it, and the fee stays the same.

Bigger jobs use more credits. Using Ask AI to find where a report lives is a small job; working out profitability across your top clients this quarter is a big one. Credit use depends on how much detail you ask for, how much of your workspace the AI reads, how many steps the job takes, and which AI model it needs. Specific requests usually use fewer credits.

How many credits you get

Plan

Monthly AI credits
Basic
1,000
Accelerate
2,500
Optimize / Enterprise
7,500

Credits belong to your account, not individual seats, so your whole team shares one balance. Say your agency is on Accelerate with 2,500 credits. Your operations lead uses 600 on Join my meeting for client calls. A project manager uses 400 on agent-drafted weekly client updates, and the rest of the team uses 500 on Ask AI. That leaves 1,000 credits for anyone on the account. Only fully licensed users can use AI, so guests and client users don't draw from your balance.

A few more things to know:

  • Your allowance resets every month on your billing date. That's true on annual plans too.

  • Unused allowance credits don't carry over. Whatever's left at the end of the month is replaced by a fresh allowance.

  • Your plan sets the number, not your team size. Adding users doesn't change it. Upgrading your plan does, straight away.

Staying in control of your credits

Credits are prepaid, so you'll never be billed for AI you didn't choose to pay for.

  • See your balance in your settings area.

  • Get alerts at 85% and 100% of your monthly allowance.

  • Turn off scheduled AI runs individually from admin settings.

  • Turn AI off for the whole account if you need to.

If you run out, the features that use credits pause until your allowance resets. Everything else in Teamwork.com, including the built-in AI, keeps working as normal. Scheduled agent runs restart when credits are back.

If you need more before then, an admin or billing contact can buy top-up credits from the billing area of your account. Top-ups cost the same flat $0.01 per credit, are paid when you buy, and last 6 months, so they don't disappear when your allowance resets. Your monthly allowance is always used first.

What to do next

Built-in TeamworkAI keeps getting smarter at no extra cost, and your plan now covers the work you hand to it. After 10 November, check your allowance in your settings area. If your team already uses AI heavily, your account team can walk through your usage and options with you before you decide anything. Then hand your next client update to an agent and see what it gives you back.

Frequently asked questions

Is the cost of my Teamwork.com subscription increasing?

No. AI credits are included in your plan. Your price only changes if you move plan or buy top-up credits.

Am I charged credits if an AI request fails?

No. Credits are used whenever AI does work for you, including steps in a run you cancel or retry. If we charge you in error, contact support and we'll re-credit you.

Do trial accounts get AI credits?

Yes. Trials include an allowance, and your paid allowance starts fresh when you upgrade.

What happens if I upgrade or downgrade?

An upgrade applies the new allowance immediately. A downgrade takes effect at renewal.

Can I see what an action will cost before I run it?

Not exactly. Credit use depends on the work involved, so there's no fixed price per action. The help center explains which requests typically use more.

Is my data used to train AI models?

No. Customer data is never used to train third-party AI models, whichever model runs. Teamwork.com is SOC 2 compliant.

Can AI see data a user doesn't have access to?

No. AI only works with data the user can already access.
